Gig Photo's and review HERE
Sounds like a good night then, apart from the in-club beer prices!
The gig itself was fuckin' spectacular, the place though...Jeezus. The gig room's on the third floor, the bogs are on the fifth. The DJ only has two albums, the latest Kings Of Leon and AC/DC's "Back In Black". There were only two bar staff on to see to 500 or so punters. There was no draught booze - the pumps were off, so there were only bottles - and no bottled cider. The barman that served me ws a right snotty bastard ("What cider have you got?" says I. "There's just what you see," he sniffs. "I can't see anything, there's no bloody lights on," I point out. "No cider," he says. Couldn't he have said that straight away? The twat.).
Oh, but the show...LOADS of obscure 'Hearts and SG5 stuff, the odd Honeycrack track, Willie and Random swapping instruments at a dizzying rate, a fantastic cover of my favourite Cheap Trick song ("He's A Whore", which was coincidentally the second song I ever played on stage...), Ginger's birthday presents (including a fucking gorgeous perspex BC Rich Warlock)...
So, 10/10 for the gig. Fuck all/10 for the venue. The wife, a veteran of the Wardour Street Marquee, said it was an insult to the Marquee name.
I'm glad I got to visit the original Marquee before
they disowned it: Rag Dolls, circa'91 - lovely.
Beer prices were extortionate even back then, though,
so goodness knows how much a pint costs thesedays:
?3? ?4?

The Charing Cross Road one wasn't the original, Daz - the Wardour Street gaff shut in '87, and even THAT wasn't the original.
You're right though, the Charing Cross Road place was a belting little venue.
The price for a beer out on the old pub crawl these days is fugging ridiculous, and that's an understatement.
I thought The Astoria was taking the piss, charging ?3.20 for a can of Carling, but it sounds like The Marquee has topped that at ?3.60 for a bottle.
Mind you, I have paid ?4 for a bottle of Beck's years ago when The Limelight had a rock night (very briefly), until I worked out Heineken Export was only ?3.50 for a half pint bottle. Bargain (not!!!)
By comparison, the Pink Pussycat in Hollywood charges $5 for a Bud, which is slightly cheaper thanks to current exchange rates.
The moral - well, lesson - of the story, is to
transsexualise into a woman, buy a big fat handbag,
and always make sure you've tucked a bottle of
spirits into it whenever you leave the house of
an evening? Sod the pub and their prices!
D.
I'll bear that in mind. Cheers, Nadia
Nadia... LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!
